Edmonton has been recognized as one a Canada’s most livable cities. The quality of life for those who call the city home is bolstered by the fact that there are a wonderful number of cultural and other attractions to entertain and educate both its ingredients (just under a million) and those who visit. it doesn’t hurt that it also has a restaurant scene that is gaining a lot of attention. The city – which is the Capital of the Canadian province of Alberta is proving a draw card for people who want to enjoy a great way of life.
Attractions such as the Edmonton Valley Zoo, the University of Alberta, as well as Fort Edmonton Park are only some of the reasons the city proves so popular.
The Edmonton Valley Zoo, although small is the perfect place for families to come and enjoy the wonders of nature in both Canada and further afield. Some of the wonderful exhibits include a showcase of the Arctic shore where young and old will experience the wonder of this unique habitat which is home to Harbor Seals and Northern Fur Seals. The ongoing development of the Wander Trail which covers the region of Alberta’s North Saskatchewan River Valley will delight anyone with an interest in Canada’s environment and wildlife.
The University of Alberta was established in 1908 and is today recognized as one of the premier institutes of higher learning in the world. it consists of 4 campuses spread across a sprawling fifty block area. The university plays host to around 39,000 students from both Canada and the rest of the globe. It offers higher education in a variety of disciples with in excess of 400 programs on the diverse curriculum – offered by 18 different faculties.
The attractions of Fort Edmonton Park are not difficult to understand. It is the largest ‘living history’ museum in Canada and houses both modern and historically accurate structures that allow the visitor an insight into the rich history of Edmonton. During the summer months the museum grounds are staffed by experts in the history of the area – and the fact that they are clothed in costumes that are approach to the individual attractions and their areas of expertise lends a charm to any visit. This is an attraction that should not be missed.
Edmonton is a fascinating city and any trip to Alberta would not be complete without at least spending the day exploring this wonderful Canadian destination.
